The oplatek is a thin, unleavened wafer baked from pure wheat flour and water. These sets of White Christmas Wafers are stamped with beautiful figures of the Godchild, the blessed Mary, Joseph and Nativity scenes. Each envelope contains 4 extra large wafers measuring 4" x 7.25". You may choose from one set/envelope that contains 4 large wafers or three sets/envelopes that contain 12 wafers total. The set of 4 wafers is placed in a clear polybag that is then placed in an envelope. Each envelope contains a beautiful nativity theme image on the front, and religious blessings, prayers and/or citations in Polish language on the inside as well as on the back of the envelope. Shipped in a rigid envelope to protect wafers from breakage. Made in Poland. TRADITION: The most important night for many Eastern European cultures is the Christmas Eve (Wigilia) during which 12 meatless dishes is prepared to symbolize twelve Apostles. The table is beautifully set with a snow-white linen tablecloth under which is placed a piece of hay (sianko) to remind of Christ's birth in a stable. The tradition also indicates that an extra chair and a place setting is reserved for an unexpected guest who happens to pass by and in memory of those who are departed. Right before the supper, all members of the family break and share oplatek along with best wishes and blessings. For those members of the family who are absent, a piece of oplatek is often sent by mail to represent the love and family unity. COMPANY: The Oplatki are made by a family-owned bakery in Poland specializing since 1982 in the production of Christmas Wafers. The unleavened wafers baked from pure wheat flour are in line with the tradition of the Catholic Church dating back to the 19th century. The wafers are baked in artistically engraved matrices with unique patterns. The production is carried out in accordance with the provisions of Canon Law.
