Life is Sweet In 1910, the Borzillo Bakery opened for business with the smell of Italian breads and pastries filling the air. Fifty-five years later, we acquired the cookie division of Perfect Foods in Lansdale, PA, called Sweetzels. Sweetzels created a Spiced and Molasses Cookie that was only available in Philadelphia during the autumn season. A traddition older than pumpkin spice Spiced Wafers, which originated in 14th-century Europe, found their way to Colonial America with German, Dutch, and English settlers. Over 100 years ago, Sweetzels’ bakery revived the spice and molasses cookie through their own unique recipe and spice blend. Today, our family-owned business continues the tradition of crafting what is now known and loved as Spiced Wafers. With a black-and-orange box that spans generations and can be found in almost every household in the Philadelphia area during the fall, there’s something to be said for quality ingredients and a personal touch.
