This tea comes from nine small tea gardens in Assam India. The gardens range in size from 3/4th of an acre to 3 acres. All the gardens operate using organic practices, including no chemical sprays or fertilizers. The tea growers own and operate the tea gardens and rely on the sale of tea as their primary source of income.<br/><br/>All of the processing of the tea is done by hand in very small drying facilities that each tea garden has setup themselves. Each tea garden employs between 5 and 20 laborers. The farmers are paid a fair price for their tea, and the laborers are paid fairly as well. Additionally the laborers receive a premium which they decide cooperatively how to invest. Among their project are the start of a shared compost system and provision of water filtration systems for their homes.
